The library at Munro College which has been left without a roof. - Ian Allen
While on its path across Jamaica, Hurricane Dean paid a visit to one of the nation's oldest and most distinguished institutions, Munro College in St. Elizabeth, and left millions in damage.
A visit to the 151-year-old institution revealed the devas-tating effect of the storm. All the windows were still securely battened up, but the library lost its roof and damage was caused to 25 computers, printer, photocopier and thousands of books and other materials, some of which were recently donated to the school.
The school, which is facing its second disaster in three years, will also have to find the resources to replace the roof of the Richard Roper Auditorium and other buildings.
Principal of the school, Lansford Gayle, however, expressed confidence that with more than 20 persons working to fix the damage that Dean left, the school will be in good stead for its reopening.
At its nearby sister school, Hampton High, there was also some structural damage but this did not stop the registration of children.
