Dear Pastor,
I am not living in Jamaica now but my mother is, and I am seeking, begging and pleading for help for her. She is in need of a house. She is now living on a piece of captured land with my sisters and her kids. I can afford to pay J$6500 per month to help my mom live in a decent house of her own, but I don't know were to start. I heard about Habitat for Humanity and I think they can help my mom. My mom doesn't have a source of income, so I will pay the mortgage for her.
Through hell and back
My mom has been through hell and back to take care of her kids. I see her cry, suffer and used by men, but she never gave up on her kids. Sometimes, we would eat and she would remain hungry. She used to sell at the local market, but things are so rough now that she stopped. She is barely surviving. I am in a situation to help her now, so please help me to find some way to get my mom and sisters out of the ghetto. Help me, help my mom. May the Good Lord continue to bless and keep you.
T.F., Aruba
Dear T.F.,
Why is it that your sisters, who are living in Jamaica with your mother, have not done anything to help her? According to you, they are all living together under poor conditions. Ask her to speak to her pastor about the
possibility of her getting a house from Food For the Poor.
What about the Member of Parliament in her area? She should talk to him/her about her situation. Her daughters who are living with her should also accompany her. I am glad that you are willing to help your mother, but those who are living at home should do the leg work and tell you what steps should be taken.
Please let me hear what progress has been made.
Pastor
