When then 25-year-old Kenrick bought his first car, he went for the sports look that he always wanted, but not quite the car he had envisioned.
At that time, in the early 2000s, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, or 'Evo' as it was commonly called, was the sports car of choice for the young and rapid young men, but he could not quite get there.
At least, not without an extreme stretch of his finances.
"The 'Evo' was the lick; I think it was the III I was looking at. I could buy it, but the payments would be rough, plus there was the insurance, which would be a killer as a young driver and with my first insurance too," he said.
After much consideration and reconsideration of pocket and prospects for promotion and jobs, Kenrick decided to give up on his dreams of an Evolution and go with a Honda Civic hatchback.
It is a choice that he has not regretted. "The amount of things that I do with that Civic, it ended up very fast. Not fast like an Evo, but the insurance was way less, the car was much cheaper and even just looking around and doing things for yourself was so much fun," he said
And as he drove his car around happily, he saw time catch up on the Evolution. "Where is the Evo now? You hardly see them on the road again and when you do see them it look like an old car," Kenrick said. "Who could tell them times that the Impreza WRX would come and run them off the market just like that? If I did have an Evo, chances are I could not even sell it back."
The Civic, upgrades and all, has been sold, though, a choice that Kenrick does not regret. "I buy something that hold the price. A Honda is a Honda, you know. And when I sell it back, I get back my money, plus I drive it for a long enough time. I could never regret buying it in the first place," he said.
