The Editor, Sir.,
The story has been told of this very 'affluent person' who enjoyed every possible luxury, luxurious house and top-of-the-line cars. On his/her departure from earth, he/she fortunately entered the 'pearly gate'.
An angel escorted this person through the golden paved streets, adorned with luxury houses.
Finally the angel stopped at this 'ghetto hut' which was offered to the person being escorted.
In amazement and shock to the question: 'what have you done?' The unhesitating reply by the angel: 'whilst on earth, the material you gave was only able to build this hut'.
I reflected on hearing this story and concluded that we ALL must feel the hurt of the sufferers resulting from Hurricane Dean. I would implore all of us to extend our love and assistance to the less fortunate, in the restoration effort.
A thought has come to my mind: could one of the reputable organisations: Food for the Poor, United Way or a financial institution lead the way in offering to collect the additional $5,000 to pensioners for hurricane relief.
I think a fair amount of us pensioners would sacrifice, and an accumulated amount would go some way in assistance to the recovery effort of the less fortunate.
I am, etc.,
