Watch Jack Be Good

By Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

TRAINER Solomon Sharpe should log his first winner in tomorrow's third event with in-form JACK BE GOOD, who has slipped down to top-level claiming after losing in driving finishes against Open and Overnight Allowance runners over the past month.

Back to his happy hunting ground where he outclassed SATISFIER and ITAL QUEEN at 1300 metres on August 1, JACK BE GOOD will be partnered by sparingly used Lyndon Lewis but has mainly JACK SPARROW to fear in the 1300-metre event.

JACK SPARROW is sneaking down two classes for a shot at the Cecil Charlton Trophy after finding Open Allowance too tough to handle in his last three races. Tomorrow's distance is right up his street as he had convincingly put away ROYAL COMMAND and WHITE DIAMOND over the trip in an Overnight Allowance event back in May.

However, JACK BE GOOD's recent form stands out whereas JACK SPARROW has been lagging at the rear of his races, outsped in quick splits, which his rival has been relishing.

DIGI N' JIGGY, who was claimed as a loser from Wayne DaCosta by Errol Waugh after taking a sudden drop to claiming mid-July, should not be underestimated and although mainly training in the pool, has done most of his running at Open Allowance this year and could rebound.

Trainers Spencer Chung and Frederick Watson, should saddle their second career winners tomorrow afternoon.

Recent graduates from the Jamaica Racing Commission's trainers' programme, Chung has a promising three-year-old debutant, PAGEE PRINCESS, in the sixth event at 1000 metres round whereas Watson's BOURN TO RUN should land her second straight race in the 10th event over 1600 metres.

PAGEE PRINCESS has impressed the clockers at exercise, beating up on Philip Feanny's LIMA'S BIG BAD BOY in a half-mile gallop on the round course, clocking 48.1

A grey filly, PAGEE PRINCESS is well-bred, ALISIOS-HAVASAC, and should get off the mark the first time of asking, having shown good speed in the mornings.

Jackpots at $1.5m

The Pick-9 was finally cornered on Saturday with nine winning tickets each picking up $1.45m whereas both Super-6 bets were collared.

Now back at its guaranteed $1m starting at the second event, the Pick-9 should be attacked right away as the big spenders are either licking wounds or still counting their winnings.

BOURN TO RUN won strong enough and in good splits on September 1 to be fancied as a banker up in class, going a mile again.

The five-year-old mare looked business-like in a six-furlong split of 1:15.2, while making all the running and with apprentice Carlton Malcolm coming in at 49.0 kilos, she will have to be caught again.

Track Price Plus Pick-6 players should note Gary Subratie's HAIL THE GENIUS' 1:08.4 for 1100 metres at exercise with the figure-eight fitted in the fourth event at a mile.

WE WILL SEE's 1:14.2 for 1200 metres on August 29 makes him a banker up in class and Neive Graham appears to have PURE JUSTICE back to his best as 1:01.1 from the gate suggested last week Monday morning.
