Schoolgirl shot

By Rasbert Turner, St Catherine

A second female student was shot in less than a week in St. Catherine on Sunday morning, which has left police officers worried about the development of a possible trend.

In the latest incident, a 13-year-old student of Spanish Town High School was shot and injured in the Duncan's Pen area in St Catherine when gunmen invaded her home and sprayed bullets all over the house hitting her several times.

The Spanish Town police told THE STAR that the student was hospitalised in serious, but stable condition. The injury of this teenager follows another incident on Thursday when a 14-year-old schoolgirl was also shot and injured.

In that incident, about 7 a.m., the father of the 14-year-old girl was killed while she was injured when gunmen attacked them.

Head of the St. Catherine North Police, Superintendent Harry Daley, claimed that the police would be leaving no stone unturned in dealing with violence against students.
