With only a few weeks gone since the beginning of the academic year, one student has already fallen victim to the hands of a cellphone robber.
Students and staff at the Albion Primary and Junior High in Montego Bay have been left in grief following the fatal stabbing of a student Wednesday afternoon.
Dead is 14-year-old Percival Crewe of Paradise, Norwood, in the parish.
Police reports are that at about 12:45 p.m., Crewe was walking along the Albion main road from his school, when he was approached by a man who demanded his cellular phone.
Crewe reportedly agreed and handed over the cellphone but the man demanded another phone which the child also had in his possession.
It is further reported that Crewe refused the demand. His actions angered the man who then grabbed the phone and used a knife to stab Crewe before escaping on foot.
Crewe was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police noted to THE STAR that the incident comes days after a group of Upper Six students at the nearby Cornwall College were robbed at gunpoint of cellphones and cash while in class.
The police also mentioned that a manhunt has since been launched for the killer.
Meanwhile, principal Lenovol Morle said that "The entire school body is in shock."
He also admitted that parents have expressed concerns about the number of attacks on students in that area.
On that note, the police say they will be maintaining a strong presence in the area.
