Beenie turns to business

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

The King of the dancehall Moses 'Beenie Man' Davis is planning to reclaim his throne in the music business. Beenie Man says he's no longer into the passa passa that has been taking place in his personal life but is turning a new leaf, opening new doors in business.

In an effort to clean up his image and those of his fellow entertainers, Beenie Man is trying a more conscious note as to be seen in his latest video 'Mama's Cry'. Shot on UWI campus, Gordon Town and Holy Childhood, Beenie Man claims the video is simply 'beautiful and touching', teaching persons that there is hope behind the rain cloud. This a change for a man known to talk about the ladies, but according to Beenie Man he trying to make a difference.

Career focus

Barbee

"Dem a seh artistes teach nuting but badness, but I'm trying to flip that. I hope it really soothes Jamaica. Wid what's going on in the media, everyone is looking for me to talk about what's goin on in the media. I want to get people mind off dat and look at what's going on in my career," he said.

There are many changes in Beenie's business affairs. The artiste told the STAR he is no longer with Virgin Records. "I couldn't put out an album this year, the contract with Virgin is over since it merged and is no longer Virgin. We putting out an album soon with '357 Records' and VP records, we going back to basics. We plan to tek it to another level this is our time to mek our choice of music. It's not a pretty ting, a nice ting, everyting bout dancehall is entertainment. The next album call Down A Town and is straight ghetto."

Beenie also says he is no longer affiliated with Mafia House. Bookings for Beenie Man can now be done through 357 Records. He said, "Mafia House production, I'm no longer a member of dat - I don't want to be managed by D'Angel and her friends. Is me start Mafia House, is me introduce D'Angel to Mafia House, how she become boss, dat nuh mek no sense."

According to Beenie Man, he is an international Grammy-award winning artiste and its high time he tries to buss his fellow artistes. One of his new protégés is his rumoured to be lover Barbee. Beenie Man also acted as producer to his wife before the split, so he is not new to the job. Barbee and Beenie recently shot a video for their single Patty Cake. They also have another song together and a video for the song Candles is to be released soon. "She's my artiste yuh see, she's been getting a lot of offers" he said,

Also on his plate are two new singles, one of which is titled Police In Helicopter. Beenie Man has every right to want to take his image away from his personal life which involves his relationship with his estranged wife and fellow entertainer D'Angel and his rumoured love affair with Barbee. Beenie and Angel are presently in a court dispute involving Mafia House and the dissolution of their marriage.
