Member of Parliament Colin Fagan, who has been the Deputy Mayor of Portmore for four years, has tendered his resignation as councillor for the Edgewater Division.
Fagan, who was successful in the recently-held general elections, announced at the Portmore Municipal Council's monthly meeting on Wednesday that he is proud to have been associated with the council since its inception, but plans to move on now and do even more for Jamaica as a Member of Parliament.
He was replaced by Councillor Owen Saunderson of the Braeton Division who was unanimously selected to act as Deputy Mayor.
The council has also decided that they will be supporting the newly-elected deputy and the Mayor, George Lee, said he welcomed Councillor Saunderson and hoped that he will work to fill the void left by his predecessor.
Meanwhile several residents of Edgewater said they appreciated that their councillor was now a Member of Parliament and hoped that he would do well for Portmore.
Fagan, in an interview with THE PORTMORE STAR, thanked all for their support and said he would be doing his best to keep the tradition of high quality that had been left in the Division by Dr. Paul Robertson.
