Flames not burning steady

Sunshine City team Portmore Flames suffered mixed results over the past week in the KFC National Basketball League (NBL).

Flames went on a two-game win streak taking down two of the top teams in the league.

First, Flames burnt joint leaders St George's Slayers 82-60, then scorched Tivoli All Stars 72-64.

However, last Saturday, Portmore Flames went down 54-49 to Arnett Gardens Rockers (see pictorial on page 19) in a low-scoring game. Only four players, three from Flames and one from Rockers, made it into double figures. Rockers' top-scorer was Vivian Spence with 15 points, while Kevin Grooves (14), Adrian Coote (13), and Christopher Sancroft (11) scored most points for the losers.

The Portmore side was up by 10 points (38-28) in the third quarter but started finding it difficult to score. They missed simple lay-ups and two-feet shots, which annoyed their coach Kevin Pinnock.

Flames are currently tied with Arnett Gardens Rockers for fourth in the league with 19 points.

Majesty Gardens and St George's Slayers lead the league with 23 points.
