Three men charged with the theft of 234 cases of Bigga soft drinks, valued at under $200,000, all came out with different results when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.
Vincent Campbell, 29, forklift operator employed to Wisynco, pleaded guilty to larceny and was fined $50,000 or six months hard labour by RM Lorna Errar-Gayle. His co-accused, Garfield Skriving, a driver, pleaded not guilty and was granted $100,000 bail, while the third man, Philmore Brown, 37, was remanded to reappear October 31.
Caught unloading loot
The court heard that on September 16, Campbell and Skirving
conspired and stole the cases of drinks from the compound. About 2 a.m. the following morning, the men were at a section of the Sligoville main road when police say them and other men unloading the loot.
The other men ran, but Brown and Campbell were held and investigations by Detective Corporal Robert Blake led to the arrest of Skirving.
When the case was called up Brown pointed out that he was helping the men to remove the goods as he lived in the neighbourhood.
The RM told him that he must have known what happened at that early hour of the morning, to be giving a helping hand in the act of
dishonesty.
