Woman remanded for father's murder

by Rasbert Turner, STAr Writer

spanish town

A St. Catherine woman, who stabbed her father to death after an alleged dispute, was remanded when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate Court on a murder charge on Tuesday.

Sonya Anderson, 22, of Homestead, Spanish Town is accused of stabbing her father, Leroy Anderson, to death on October 16 after a disagreement. During Anderson's appearance, the court learnt that the father was accused of going through her house too often, and after a quarrel, Anderson, allegedly, used a knife to stab her father. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he later died.

Anderson's attorney, in applying for bail, told the court that the accused was attacked by the father and other family members and was only defending herself.

The investigating officer also mentioned that Sonya told him that she was attacked by other persons in the yard.

RM Lorna Errar-Gayle, however, told the investigator to do further investigations and that the accused would be remanded until November 22, when she would look further into the matter.
