My mother thinks I'm too good for him

Dear Pastor,

I am having a big problem with my mother. I am engaged to my child's father and we are planning on getting married, but she insists on telling me that I am not ready to get married to him. She told me one day that I am better than that and "nuh tree nuh grow inna mi face". To me, it seems as if she doesn't like him. He is not from a very high profile family and I think that is her biggest problem.

Please, help me, pastor.

Z. L., Westmoreland, Jamaica

Dear Z. L.,

If you love this man and he loves you and respects you and he is hardworking and ambitious, marry him. He might not have formal education, but it is not too late to return to school. The decision is solely yours. Your mother would prefer another man in your life, but this is the man you have chosen.
