November 5, 1974

Last night, Edward Seaga, Member of Parliament for West Kingston, answered, "yes" at a public meeting called at Sir Alexander Bustamante's statue, South Parade. A wildly cheering crowd heard his answer to the invitation to assume leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party.

Then

Edward Seaga, who was in the process of withdrawing from public life after 15 years of service, decided to become leader of the opposition labour party.

Now

After leading the Jamaica Labour Party as Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, Edward Seaga finally retired from public life in 2005, having spent 46 years in politics.
