The Greater Portmore police recovered a high-powered weapon on Miller's Crescent in Newland on Saturday Night.
Reports from the CCN liaison officer for the St Catherine South Division are that about 10:30 p.m., Detective Corporal Cliff 'Bad Indian' Coleman acting on information, led a team of police officers from the Division into Miller's Crescent, off Weetom Lane. The police searched a sand heap and found a M-1 semi-automatic assault rifle with four live 30.06 rounds.
They also found four .45 calibre bullets used in automatic pistols in a plastic bag nearby.
No one was arrested in connection with the find.
The Police said the gun was recently used in the gang feud in the Newland area, where at least five persons have been killed since Nomination day.
Detective Corporal Coleman said that the bullets from the M-1 can penetrate bullet-proof vests and pierce concrete walls.
"We think that we have severely dented the operations of the gangs in the Newland area," he said.
The Police said that they will remain resolute to serve and protect the people of this nation even through difficult circumstances.
