It was a celebration of joy at the Sober Robin Inn in Duncans, Trelawny on Saturday, for Charles 'Chaz-o' Gallimore, who reached a 100 years old on October 28.
With six of his eight children present, this former fisherman gave praise to God for long life and to his children for their care. He told the story of a very expensive coffin that was languishing in a funeral parlour, but which could not be sold because of its price. It was eventually bought by someone who had died because of lack of care. He gave thanks for his children who saw it not just fitting to give him a good coffin, but to take care of him while he was still around.
Founding member
Gallimore is a founding and ardent member of the Duncans Tabernacle Church, where he still worships. He is probably best known for his rich bass voice.
Another of his hallmarks is his great sense of humour.
Pastor Horace Rose, who gave the invocation, spoke of his commitment to God and his church while linking Gallimore's long life to his godliness. He wished him many more years.
He has 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, most of whiom were present, many coming in from the United States.
Greetings were brought by Mrs. Joy Watson, Mrs. Lynette Henry and PNP divisional caretaker for Duncans, Derrick Gallimore. The MC was Norman Perry.
