A 31-year-old farmer who is charged with unlawful wounding and praedial larceny was denied bail when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday, December 4.
Rohan Reid of Abraham district, St. Elizabeth, was given until December 11 by Resident Magistrate Dionne Meyler-Reid, at which time the accused's attorney, Carlton Campbell, can again make an application for bail.
The court was told that some time on Tuesday, November 27, the accused was caught stealing pepper from the complainant's farm. When the complainant confronted the accused and asked him what he was doing on his farm, an argument developed between them.
The court heard that during the argument the accused, allegedly, used a piece of board to hit the complainant in his head, causing him to seek medical attention. Later that same day the complainant reported the incident to the Santa Cruz police.
Following investigations, Reid was taken into custody and subsequently arrested and charged.
