A teenager, who allegedly stole more than $300,000 from her employers after just six months on the job, was granted bail with reporting conditions when she appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Krisan Campbell who resides in Hanover was employed to the Shopper's Fair Supermarket in Montego Bay as a cashier when she was charged with larceny as a servant. She is however denying any wrongdoing.
Allegations are that between October 1 and November 30 Campbell falsified cash receipts and stole $325,684.16 from the cash register. She also allegedly stole the code and name of her supervisor and used the information to carry out unauthorised refund transactions.
It was revealed in court that she made confessions to the police that she did steal the money.
The police also said that Campbell was implicated because only her code and that of her supervisors are entered into the cash register and on two occasions when moneys were reportedly taken the supervisor whose code was entered was not at work.
However, in a bail application, attorney at law Dalton Reid said that his client made an admission to her employers after they told her that they would get the police involved if she did not confess to taking the money. He said that his client made the alleged confession to spare her family embarrassment.
The mother of one was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 and was ordered to report to the Sandy Bay Police Station on Mondays, Wed-nesdays and Fridays. She is scheduled to return to court on January 31 as the court awaits three additional statements to complete the case file.
