Portmore Mayor, Keith Hinds said as a mark of respect for his predecessor, George Lee, he will embark on renaming Braeton Parkway, George Lee Boulevard.
Hinds, who was speaking at his swearing-in ceremony at the HEART Academy recently, said that Lee did some work in Portmore, but more needs to be done and he will start working now.
"I see crime as a major problem. It halts development and as such will be working with the police and community to deal with that problem as Portmore needs to progress," Hinds told THE PORTMORE STAR.
He said to achieve results, the effort of all will be needed to curb crime. The new mayor said with all the good intention the area must be cleaned of its garbage and he is in dialogue with the authorities to deal with the problem. And to do this he was promised by Robert Montague, minister responsible for local government, that $100,000 will be available, to deal with the immediate beautification and clean up of all divisions.
Several residents who turned out kept chanting "Keith!, Keith!", throughout the event chaired by Principal of the Bridgeport High School, Allan Messam.
