Man fined for stamps in passport

A man who recently presented a passport with two forged stamps was fined and the incident was not recorded against him.

Selvin McKay, 21, of a Kingston address pleaded guilty to uttering forged documents when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

McKay was only fined $5,000 or 30 days by RM Brown who also made an order for the conviction not to be recorded.

Allegations are that recently the accused arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport where he presented a passport to the Immigration officer who found two forged stamps on two separate pages in the passport. The accused allegedly told the police that he paid a man $10,000 to get the stamp.

His attorney told the court that his client had recently visited St. Martin and had overstayed and was trying to return to the country without it being detected. He also begged for leniency and this was granted by the RM Brown.
