A frequent visitor to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court, who has been lucky in avoiding convictions on previous occasions, was, on Wednesday, sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at hard labour.
Donovan Haddo, a 42-year-old resident of Paradise Rowe in Montego Bay, pleaded guilty to simple larceny after he stole a barbecue grill from a man's yard.
"Mi go inna some bush a Granville and see the ting. Me neva know seh a fi anybody," he told RM Wilson Smith. "Same time me come out of the bush, a car draw dung pon mi an' seh a fi dem."
The Crown alleges that earlier this month the complainant left the grill, valued at $8,000, in his front yard. However, when he returned it was missing. The item was later recovered in Haddo's possession.
Robbery charges
Haddo was reportedly before the court in December, 2005 for robbery with aggravation charges for which he was given a suspended sentence. In February 2006, he was charged for attempting to rape a police officer, a matter that was adjourned sine die after witnesses failed to show up for court.
Since then, he has been before the court on other charges and told the court that he has been to prison twice.
"Mi nuh know wha do mi boss," he mumbled when RM Smith asked him if he plans to change.
