Garbage morals, teenage pimps

The lead story in last WEEKEND STAR was a quite disturbing one. The story explored the emergence or in some cases, the further development of a dangerous practice that is taking over at least four nontraditional high schools.

According to the story, some female students have been found to be prostituting and to make matters worse, they are being 'represented' by some of their male counterparts who act as their 'pimps'.

The fact that young girls find it necessary to sell their bodies, for whatever reason is perhaps the most disturbing part of this story. What is also disturbing is that their fellow students find joy in promoting their schoolmates to other men.

This story is a clear indication that something has gone terribly wrong in the minds of our students.

In cases like these, it is obvious that these children need some kind of guidance. It is hard though to place the blame entirely on their parents because there are cases where children are raised properly and still do undesirable things. What is clear though is that some kind of intervention, whether on the part of the parents or school administration, is needed.

If stories like these are not signs of the times, then nothing is, and the fact that we are quickly losing our morals and values is something that we should all be concerned about.
