Taylor made order - Harman Barracks constable remande

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

A police officer who is charged with illegal possession of firearm and robbery with aggravation was ordered to remain behind bars when he appeared in court last Friday.

Special Constable Kevin Taylor, who is assigned to Harman Barracks, was arrested more than a week ago following an incident involving a motorcyclist who afterwards lodged a complaint.

The court heard that on January 10, Special Constable Taylor and a passenger were travelling in a service vehicle.

The officer allegedly stopped the motorcyclist on Old Hope Road and continued to search the man before taking $3,500 and a mobile phone.

The court further heard that the motorcyclist later went to Harman Barracks to lodge a complaint and saw Constable Taylor.

Detectives assigned the Anti-Corruption Branch arrested the officer after the motorcyclist pointed him out.

The files were sent to the director of public prosecutions who ruled that Constable Taylor be charged. Constable Taylor is scheduled to return to Court on February 1.
