Salkey's shooter arrested?

The police have taken one man into custody in connection with the shooting of Corporal Pete Salkey, the CCN's liaison officer for St James and Junior McKenzie, in Bethel Town, Westmoreland on Thursday night. Both men were seriously injured.

The identity of the man arrested has not been revealed as he is still being questioned by the police. However, the police had indicated that they were in search of a man known only as 'Bugs Crime', an alleged member of the Fresh Rose Gang based in Norwood, St James, in connection with the incident.

The police reported that on Thursday at about 9:00 p.m. Corporal Salkey had just finished worshipping at a church in Bethel Town, Westmoreland, and was about to go into his vehicle when he was attacked by two men armed with guns.

The men reportedly opened fire hitting the lawman in the chest and stomach. McKenzie who was standing outside the car was also hit. The lawman returned fire but the gunmen fled.

The men were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Corporal Salkey was admitted and underwent surgery.

Both Corporal Salkey and McKenzie, who is a prominent figure of the church, are said to be in stable condition.
