A cab driver who allegedly robbed a passenger of cash and a cellular phone was offered bail in the sum of $30,000 in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The accused, 36-year-old Dwight Mitchell of Upper King Street in Montego Bay, insisted that he was not guilty of the robbery with aggravation charge against him.
He was granted bail on condition that he report to the Montego Freeport Police Station every Thursday until the matter is disposed of.
Mitchell is scheduled to return to court on March 19 as the court awaits the completion of the case file.
Allegations are that about 8:55 p.m. on December 14, 2007, the complainant boarded a taxi, which was being driven by Mitchell, along Market Street in Montego Bay.
It is said that on reaching the Salt Spring Road, the accused allegedly brandished an ice pick and turned off the usual route. He allegedly robbed the complainant of her Motorola cellphone - valued at $17,000 - and $20,000 cash.
Mitchell was arrested on December 20 after the complainant's boyfriend saw him and contacted the complainant, who subsequently pointed out the accused as the man who robbed her.
