Taking a leave out of this

My Friend P and I are curious about the position with Kern Spencer. We are not getting into his eventual fate since somehow we know that his position with the law and politics will, as the saying now goes 'get sort out'.

This is what we want an explanation on - his leave of absence. What exactly does that mean? He is on vacation?

When you go on vacation you get paid, so being on a leave of absence it must mean that he is not getting paid! Right? I understand that someone will be looking after his member of parliament affairs and I assume that person is just doing the 'neighbourly' thing and helping a brother out, or is he being paid too?

I have checked with some news gurus and no one has been able to tell me definitively if the man is being paid or not. I understand that he could be out of the House for as many as eight sittings, if he is getting paid then I have a problem.

Women who go on maternity leave in government jobs have struggles getting a decent period of paid maternity leave. So if this fellow is stepping away from his job by choice, not because he is off to bear a child or be on secondment on some important chore, isn't it fair that his salary should be absent too?

I hope that I am all wrong and this is all much ado about nothing here. Because in the world of politics a 'leave of absence' and a 'vacation' cannot be the same thing. Please, someone assure me that this is not so.

Crying heart

Assure me that Kernie, bless his crying heart, is not collecting a salary for services rendered at the end of the month while he is kicking back and awaiting his fate on an investigation of alleged wrongdoing.

I think that if he is innocent until proven guilty then he must do his job without interference without being jeered or belittled. If he is found guilty of something the necessary belittling will happen then. It can't be acceptable for someone to be paid while they are doing nothing.

It makes no sense, and minuscule as some might think his salary is, Jamaica is not wealthy enough to be able to afford the luxury of paying someone to do nothing.
