Taming the wolf

The story about the injunction taken out against Flow's acquisition of the assets belonging to cable company, Entertainment Systems, comes as good news to many customers.

Several persons have expressed concern about the fact that the company has taken over several smaller cable companies so far, and seem to be on the path to taking over more. Many customers feel that they are being held hostage by Flow because all their options are being taken away, leaving them with no choice.

In every market, competition is necessary and there is no reason why this company has come in and decided to take over everything that existed before them. It is good to see that the authorities are at least trying to step into the situation, because we simply cannot sit by and allow one company to dominate the entire cable market.

We can only hope something concrete comes out of this process and that people are at least left with some options. Forcing a service on to us will not work, as many people have already indicated that they would rather live without cable than be forced into accepting an agreement that is less than desirable. We need Flow to back off and leave us with our options and we need our local cable companies to stand their ground and not sell out their customers for a little spare change.
