Album: Hold It ... Get On

Artiste: Coppershot Disco

Genre: Soca

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Revellers or soca lovers preparing for the road march should get a hand on Coppershot's latest mix CD Hold It ... Get On.

It's time to get mad with the sound's first soca mix, Hold It ... Get On. The mix has all the newest soca tunes for 2008, whether it's the whining the bumper hits or the high energy jumping songs Hold It ... Get On is a lesson in the latest soca songs. Mixed by Mr Shaun and DJ MC the 34 song mix flows from song to song.

Some of the songs to look out for on the CD are hits from the carnival king Trinidadian Machel Montano. The mix features songs from Machel including Defense, Unconditional, Blazing Di Trail and more. While soca princess Destra Garcia returns this season hot as ever and full of energy as she teases the women to "assume di position ... come on let wi wukking up."

Dancehall artistes

The CD gets its name from the official road march song of carnival 2008 Fayan Lyons' Hold It ... Get On which gives the mix a vibrant live start. A number of dancehall artistes are also making appearances on the soca beat this season. The CD showcases the best of the best in the dancehall/soca crossover with 'Free It Up' from Sean Paul and Destra. Mr Vegas brings a different beat to the soca with his and Destra's song On Di Floor. There is also a surprise soca edition of Munga Honourable's Whine Pon It. Another surprise song is an energetic remix of One Republic's Apologise by Trever Off Key and Allison Hinds.

The only downfall is that some of this year's soca hits are flat and not as catchy, upbeat and infectious as previous soca hits. A number of the songs flow into each other without making a statement. However, there are enough soca treasures well mixed together to make Hold It ... Get On a worthwhile listen applicable for the local carnival season and for soca lovers to get in touch with the music.
