The Minister of Education Andrew Holiness is scheduled to meet with disgruntled teachers at the Christiana High School in Manchester today after teachers demonstrated in front of the school, yet again.
The intervention of the minister became necessary after teachers at the school protested for a second day. The teachers were demonstrating in relation to an incident where a vice-principal was allegedly assaulted by a female student. The assault reportedly took place after the teacher had reprimanded another student for wearing make-up during devotion for the second shift on Wednesday afternoon.
Yesterday, principal of the school, John Beckford, suspended school for the day after the dissatisfied teachers demonstrated. A meeting was held between ministry officials, the principal, teachers and the school board to discuss the ability of the principals to expel students including the two girls who were indisciplined.
However, Beckford told THE STAR that the code for discipline in school was outdated and needed reviewing. As a result, a meeting with Education Minister Andrew Holness was scheduled for today to deal with that matter
