While teammate Natoya Goule is quite established and her records go before her, Sandrae Farquharson at 14, is poised to make her mark at this year's Grace Kennedy/ISSA Boys' and Girls' Championships. Her rise has been phenomenal since last year, when she copped a silver in the Class Four 200m and was also part of the Class Four 4x100 team that placed second behind Wolmer's Girls.
She began the season well, breaking the Class Three record in the 200m at the Kirkvine Development meet and more importantly at Central Champion-ships with a time of 24:40. A repeat of that time and better, coach Jerry Holness said, would put her in prime position to be among the medals.
However, her progress in the 200m pales in comparison to what she achieved with her debut this season in the 400m. After beginning with a 57:50 clocking, she has lowered her time every time she has taken the track, impressing all who have seen her in meets at Jamaica College, Kirkvine and Queen's/Grace Jackson meets. She has since shaved more than two seconds from her time at the start of the season culminating in an impressive 55:40s, at Central Championships.
Manchester High have also been able to engage her budding natural flat speed in the 4x400m, as she has been able to register regular splits of below 55 seconds. She is also likely to feature prominently in the Class Three 4x100m.
