Darren Lindsay - leading the charge for Manchester's boys

Manchester High are unlikely to feature in the top six of the Boys' Championships, March 12-15, but in Darren Lindsay, they have one athlete who could steal many important points from the fancied teams.

Manchester's boys' team at 'Champs' is expected to be just 18, well under the 36-strong girls aggregation.

Lindsay holds some prominence as the leading act of the powerful Manchester 4x800m that tasted a rare defeat at the Gibson Relays last Saturday. The other members of the squad are Jermaine Morris, Alwayne Green and Ajai Robinson, all of whom will be looking to gain points from other middle-distance events in which they will individually compete.

Lindsay's role will be crucial as he has valuable experience from competing in Class Two last year. He placed second in the 1500m and was a finalist in both the 800m and 5000m Open. He is likely to concentrate on the 1500m and 5000m, but he has improved considerably in the 800m. While he is not a favourite for the 5000m, he will definitely be in the mix. Coach Jerry Holness has carefully charted a programme for the longer event, evading a number of meets and avoiding too much competition with the main acts.
