Police arrest Panthers in Homestyle basketball

Police eked out their third consecutive win, after starting the season with two straight losses, in the Homestyle Juices Division One Basketball League yesterday at the National Stadium courts.

A game-high 29 points from Marlon Millis led the lawmen to a 71-56 win over Blazing Panthers. Millis received support from Benjamin Atkinson who contributed 14 points. Panthers, who have lost three of their five games, were led by Philip Anderson (17 points, six rebounds), Djuvane Browne (14 points, nine rebounds) and Winston Wong (10 points, 18 rebounds).

Police led from the beginning of the match with quarterly scores of 21-16, 33-25 and 49-40. Panthers made a late push and came within five (49-44) at the start of the fourth quarter, but Police were successful in forcing turnovers and converting at the offensive end.

"We were stronger and more focused on the game and I think that gave us the edge," said Police coach Craig Sterling.

Mustangs were also winners yesterday, thrashing Central Village 64-42 in an uncompetitive match. Tamar Heron, formerly of Urban Knights, led Mustangs with 22 points and eight rebounds. Wesley Weston added 11 points for the winners.

For Central Village, Hermon Tulloch had 14 points and six rebounds and Fabian Thompson added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
