No war in 'Spain' - Spanish Town won't return to war say both dons

By: Fabian Ledgister, STAR Writer

The heads of both the One Order and Clansman gangs have agreed that there is no intention of returning to their deadly days of feuding.

The rumours of a feud began last week when Robert 'Robbie' Thicket was murdered. Thicket's torso was found in a shallow grave on Jones Avenue, St Catherine recently. His remains was found minus his head and limbs. He was said to be a direct relative of a high ranking clansman member. Although Jones Avenue is mostly aligned to the People's National Party, a section known as Backland where the body was found is aligned to the Jamaica Labour Party, and some say One Order.

Despite the recent killing that has left the Clansman faction hungry for justice, a statement from the head of the gang spoke of a wish for the three-year-old ceasefire to continue.

"The Clansman organisation, the residents of De La Vega, and members of the peace organisation are demanding justice for this killing, and knowing this man as a mechanic and sound man, what could he have done to deserve such an act?" he said.

"We (clansman) and One Order have been keeping the peace for three years now and have no intention to go back to that, but the family needs justice so those people responsible need fi come forward," he added.

KILLING A SET-UP FOR WAR?

But residents of 'Backland' say that the man must have been killed elsewhere.

"If yuh chop off a man head, two han, and two foot, u nuh mus get a river of blood? Yuh see even a drop?" asked an elderly resident, who took the STAR by the river where the torso was found.

"Not one drop, and not one shot wi hear fire fi days before that ... is long time dem wa turn di whole a Jones Avenue inna PNP. Mi hear a money ting mek him own kill him, an man from Jones Avenue dump him here fi start war wit wi. A tek dem a tek siege pon wi now."

Top sleuth for the division, Deputy Superintendent Derrick Champagnie, confirmed that investigations have proven that the man was indeed killed elsewhere and buried in 'Backland.'

"All indications are that he was killed elsewhere, wrapped in plastic, and taken there where he was buried in a shallow grave," said DSP Champagnie.

ONE ORDER VINDICATED

Despite the rumours, Clansman agree that One Order is not behind the killing. A top ranking member of the One Order gang reflected similar sentiments when he spoke with The STAR team.

"Wi nuh know wa gwaan till wi read it ina di STAR - A jus party wi a deal wit an a mek money ina di peace. Wi have Fire Tuesday a blaze up wit artiste like Mavado an Kiprich a pass through, Canal Splash on Sunday wit bare young people, suh why wi woulda wa bruk di peace," he queried musingly.

Investigations by The STAR led the team to a JLP stronghold near Jones Avenue known as Shelter Rock, where residents confirmed that they were being blamed for the killing.

"Shelter Rock a get bran a way an wi need fi clear it up caa everybody know a party and love wi deal wit - right now Jones Avenue man a tek siege pon innocent people from here and Backland, an wi still na trouble people from deh so," said a resident.

In the meantime, police say that investigations into the incident are on going, and are so far proving fruitful.

"We are getting co-operation from both One Order and Clansman gangs and investi-gations are going well with hopes of a breakthrough soon. Like how we found the buried body, each information received is duly acted upon and some are proving fruitful," said DSP Champagnie.
