Devon Williams, a car mart operator being investigated for defrauding several customers will appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on March 17.
46-year-old businessman of Manfield Avenue and operator of Davion Motors on Windsor Avenue in Kingston has been charged with fraudulent conversion.
Allegations in that matter are that in November last year, the complainant saw an adver-tisement in the paper where Williams stated that he could sell vehicles. The complainant went to the accused and gave him her Honda Stream valued $1.2 million to be sold. Williams allegedly told Francis that she had to transfer the vehicle to his name. He gave the complainant US$1,000 and promised to give her the balance the following week.
Since then, she has been unable to get in contact with Williams or get her car or the balance of the money. She subsequently made a report to the police and following investi-gations, a warrant was prepared. Williams was held and charged at the Half-Way Tree CIB while being interrogated for a similar offence
Police say since the article was first published in THE STAR on Thursday, they have received several calls from persons claiming to have been defrauded by Williams. These allegations are being probed. In addition, at least five other police officers have contacted the Matilda's Corner police who are investi-gating, indicating that they intend to lay charges of a similar nature against Williams.
