Rivoli on path back to Premier League

Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

Rivoli continued to demonstrate serious intentions of returning to the National Premier League after outclassing Clarendon newcomers, Morgan's Pass, 5-1 in last weekend's schedule of the Super Plus-sponsored South Central Confed League.

This latest win for Rivoli, also the mid-season champions, kept them in the overall lead in the standings on 21 points as well as the supreme leader in Zone A ahead of Naggo Head (16 pts).

Rivoli's win was remarkable as it was achieved playing away. Their key players featured in the onslaught with Devon Hodges, arguably the best player in the league, getting two goals, with one each coming from Marvin Henry, Dwayne Hunter and Fidel Anderson.

Humble Lions, last year's beaten finalist, who are second in Zone B behind newcomers Bodles but third overall (18 pts), featured in a 0-0 encounter with Hillstars of Manchester.

Hillstars have been dogged by a sequence of draws, and their 15 points for fifth overall has included six draws, the highest by any team in the league. St Elizabeth teams Holland PYC and Tafari Lions were not involved in any action due to the sudden passing of president Courtney Browne, also the coach of Tafari Lions. Again this weekend, they will be out of action, due to the withdrawal of Los Perfectos and Arlington, who they were respectively originally drawn to play.

In Saturday's lone match, Naggo Head host Morgan's Pass while on Sunday it's the St Catherine derby at Rio Cobre Oval between Rivoli and Newlands. The day also features Hillstars vs Original Hazard at Curatoe Hill and Humble Lions vs Bodles in what should be the feature encounter.
