Criminals targeted the athletic team of Holmwood Technical for the second consecutive night on Wednesday.
The team, which is participating at the 2008 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletic Championships at the National Stadium, is housed at an apartment off Mannings Hill Road in upper St. Andrew, and suffered a scare on Wednesday night when a man was seen trying to force himself inside.
Chester McCarthy, girls' team manager, said on Tuesday night a number of food items, including dozens of tinned-corned beef, buns and milk, part of the supplies to last for the four-day meet, which ends tomorrow, were stolen. However, the thieves left empty-handed in Wednesday night's attempted robbery.
Holmwood's Vice-Principal and head coach of the boys' team, Edward Hector, said when he arrived at the apartment at about 6:00 a.m. yesterday, he was greeted by a damaged team bus.
"The left front glass (by the foot) was damaged and evidence of someone ransacking the bus was seen," Hector told STAR Sports while saying another window was tampered with during the burglar's attempt.
Hector said some of the students saw a man with a crowbar trying to pry open windows and doors.
"They were trying to get into one of the back doors, and they also slammed on some of the windows, so there was an attempt directly to get some things out of the bus and make an attempt to get into the place where the food was and in the sleeping area," he pointed out.
While the first incident on Tuesday night was not reported to the police, Star Sports confirmed with the Constant Spring Police Station that a report was made about Wednesday night's attempted burglary.
