Kendal surged to the top of the Captain's Bakery and Grill-sponsored Manchester Major League with a 1-0 win over Mile Gully in last weekend's completed 12th round. Kendal's lead at this stage greatly mirrors the competitive nature of the league all season, with the lead having changed hands among the top three teams in each passing round.
With just two rounds to be completed for the league champion to be decided, Kendal have 24 points, a crucial point ahead of New Green and Georges Valley who are locked on 23 points.
Kendal secured victory through Anthony Wilkinson's 88th-minute strike. However, Kendal find themselves in an anxious wait as a charge of using an ineligible player in a previous match is being investigated by the Manchester FA.
New Green surrendered the lead after a tough 1-1 draw with fourth-place Downs (21 pts). Georges Valley have the edge on New Green with a much more healthy goal average after scoring their seventh victory, a 3-1 effort at home over relegation bound Greenvale. Porus (17 pts) moved into a mathematical contention for the league prize with a 1-0 win over another relegation candidate, Mandeville United.
This weekend's round will go ahead on Saturday until the FA rules on the charge against Kendal. The matches on are Downs vs Mandeville United, Porus vs New Green, Georges Valley vs Mile Gully and Kendal vs Greenvale at Hanbury.
