St Catherine police target car-stealing ring

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

The St. Catherine North police say they will be targeting what they say is a huge car-stealing ring being operated in sections of the area.

This comes in the wake of the burning of about 30 vehicles which were torched on Friday afternoon in Kitson Town, allegedly by men believed to be a part of the ring after a team of police officers discovered the vehicles.

According to police reports, at about 4:00 p.m., a police team were on operation when they visited the Kingsland area where they discovered a large collection of cars which were all cut up.

Further reports are that the police team left to gather reinforcements, however upon returning they were greeted by the flaming vehicles.

Investigators say the vehicles were set on fire by men involved in the ring in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Detective Sergeant Michael Greenwood of the Area Five police told THE STAR that Kitson Town is frequently used by car thieves due to its heavy vegetation.

"The area is heavily wooded, so these car thieves use the area on a regular basis to carry out their illegal activities...We know there is a stealing ring being operated here so we will be looking to dismantle it," the detective said.
