Seven medals for Jamaica at CARIFTA swimming

Jamaica won seven medals - two gold, three silver and two bronze - on Thursday's opening night of the 2008 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Aruba.

Kendese Nangle clocked a championships record 32.03 seconds to mine gold in the Girls 13-14 50m backstroke. She won ahead of Siona Huxley of St. Lucia, 32.13 and Netherlands Antilles' Karlene Theodora 32.69.

The second gold came in the Boys 15-17 1500m freestyle where Dominic Walter did 16 minutes 42.82 seconds to defeat Derek Groters of Aruba, 16:44.79 and Yohann Baron of the French Antilles, 17:06.59. The silver medals were won by Victoria Hoo in the Girls 13-14 800m freestyle, Breanna Roman in the Girls 11-12 200m breaststroke and Ramon Walton in the Boys 15-17 50m backstroke. Bronze medal winners were Dominique Dawson in Girls 15-17 100m butterfly and the Girls 13-14 400m freestyle relay.

13-14 200m Breaststroke

1. Chinyere Pigot (SUR) 2:48.85, 2. Shaunte Moss (BAH) 2:53.35, 3. Kadeja Phillip (T&T) 2:55.04.

15-17 200m Breaststroke
