Two cops charged for illegal actions

Yet another cop has been charged for illegal actions and is to face the courts.

In a release from Karl Angell, communications director for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, it was stated that a corporal and constable have been arrested and charged with breaches of the Anti Corruption Act.

Charged are Corporal Sylvester Thaxter and Constable Kevin White.

Corporal Thaxter and Constable White both from the St Elizabeth Division were arrested on Saturday 29th March by officers from the Anti Corruption Branch. This was following investigations into a robbery that allegedly took place on Monday December 3, 2007 in Lacovia.

It is being alleged that on Monday, December 3, 2007 a man was driving his car in Slipe district, St Elizabeth, when he was stopped by police officers who allegedly found firearms in his vehicle.

The officers allegedly took $29, 000 from the man promising not to prosecute him. The complainant reported the matter to the police and following them they were arrested and charged.

The release also stated that investigations are ongoing and are in consultation with the director of public prosecutions (DPP).
