Chris Paul's triple-double lifts Hornets

NEW ORLEANS (AP)

Chris Paul had 16 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds, and the New Orleans Hornets tied a franchise record for NBA single-season victories with 54 by defeating the Golden State Warriors 108-96 yesterday.

It was the fourth career triple double for Paul, as the Hornets won their 11th straight home game and fourth straight overall.

Monta Ellis scored 35 points to keep the Warriors in the game late into the final period, but Golden State had only three points from its reserves until the game's final minute.

Peja Stojakovic and David West each scored 25 points, helping New Orleans close the game on a 18-6 run after Golden State had rallied to tie the game at 90 early in the fourth quarter.

In another pivotal western conference game yesterday, Dallas Mavericks beat Phoenix Suns 105-98 as they battle to maintain their play-off spot. Dirk Nowitzki led the winners with 32 points and 12 rebounds and Amare Stoudemire had 31 for Phoenix.
