Charles Lamont, 27, was sentenced to 60 days for absconding bail when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court last Wednesday.
Lamont was supposed to appear on January 14, he, however, told the RM Marcia Dunbar Green in no uncertain terms that it was his birthday and he felt like insulting the court so he did not turn up for the smoking ganja charge he had against him. "It was my birthday and I decided that I am not going to any court so I insulted the court," remarked Lamont who claimed that he was an entertainer.
When Clerk of the Court Floyd McNab asked if he was guilty for smoking ganja, he said yes. For that offence he was fined $5,000 or 30 days imprisonment.
However, before being sentenced for absconding bail, RM Dunbar Green told him that he showed no respect to the court and as such he must be taught a lesson. He then tried to tell the court he was sorry but the RM would have none of it. He was then sentenced to 60 days.
