It is now down to the wire, and the remaining four contestants in the Magnum King and Queen of Dancehall are taking no prisoners. Some have decided to take their campaign to the street in style.
Singer Jah was seen on Thursday driving around in a small truck in the downtown Kingston area with friends. With horns beeping and the truck laden with posters, Singer Jah was all smiles as he hailed his fans who easily identified him.
"Di people dem love mi like cook food. Mi guh MoBay yesterday (Wednesday) and mi deh downtown now. Mi did inna one truck, but now wi park di truck an' a walk 'bout di place," Singer Jah told THE STAR.
He continued: "Di way how mi si di people dem a give mi di love in the streets, mi nuh feel there is no way mi can lose, an' from Jah set di ting, mi good," he said as his fans could be heard in the background shouting, 'Wasskaa! Wasskaa!, the singer's signature style.
According to singer Jah, the phrase means "always on top, trample an' paralyse all di crosses."
Singer Jah says he has been campaigning since the first week of the show and has already made a number of stops across the island.
"Last week wi deh a Ochi, wi guh Old Harbour, Spanish Town, Mandeville, all bout," said the man who was born in St James, but grew up in May Pen, Clarendon.
Another contestant, Monalisa says she has also been campaigning in the streets and admits: "the reaction is not that bad in the streets, so I think I have a chance of winning."
Street campaign
Monalisa says most of her campaigning is done, "by walking around in the streets with pictures and posters and fans walking by will drop whatever they have, whether a 50 or 100 dollar. An wi use dat to buy phone cards and vote."
According to Monalisa, who is originally from Montego Bay, she has taken her campaigning to other places around the island like Sav-la-Mar and Ocho Rios.
Senita, who was also on the street campaigning when THE STAR contacted him, said he, too, had been "campaigning from the TV series start."
"Normally, I go to people and ask them about the show. If dem nuh know 'bout it, mi tell dem 'bout it, an' mi wi do a likkle deejay fi dem, an give dem mi number fi dem vote fi mi. But yuh haffi lock yard before yuh guh any weh else, suh mi lock Christian Gardens in Portmore an' den mi guh St Mary which part mi grow up an' den all over," Senita said.
"Dem sey hard work a di key to success an' right now, mi deh pon it. Me an' mi fren Black Fire inna di streets everyday an' TNR, which a my crew. Wi always inna di streets a campaign," he said as he quoted his slang, "in an' out quickly," he continued.
