A Montego Bay truck driver who is accused of being one of several persons who robbed a man of his cellphone, cash and a motor vehicle, was granted bail when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Thirty-three-year-old Leon Weekly of Adelphi, St James who is charged with robbery with aggravation, was granted $200,000 bail with surety. He was given a warning not to interfere with the complainant. He is to report to the Adelphi police on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The charge for which Weekly finds himself before the court stems from an incident on March 13 in which the complainant alleges that he had just driven his uncle's Toyota corolla motor vehicle to his home and was about to open the grille when he heard voices behind him.
Demanded money
The men ordered him to open the house and demanded money from him. The complainant allegedly gave them $7,000 and his cellphone. The men also took the car and one man is alleged to have cut the complainant on the neck before leaving the scene.
Weekly was arrested on April 3 after the complainant saw him on the scene of a fatal accident in Flankers and pointed him out to police officers on the scene, as one of the men who robbed him. The car is yet to be recovered.
The complainant also informed the court that friends of the accused had visited his home and threatened to kill him.
In light of this allegation, RM Henry told the accused that neither he or his friends and family are to interfere with the complainant.
Defence attorney, Adrian Dayes, argued that his client does not know the complainant and said there were many persons on the accident scene who expressed shock and awe at the complainant's allegations as his client is known as one of good character.
Weekly is scheduled for court on May 15.
