Two die during shoot-out

Kimoni Harris, Staff Reporter

Two of four gunmen who allegedly engaged members of a police team in a shoot-out were fatally shot in Riversdale, St Catherine, yesterday morning and a firearm was seized in the incident.

The dead men have been identified as Everton Dawes, 47 and 30-year-old Trevorton Phillips, both of Burwick District, Riversdale.

Reports from the Constabulary Communications Network liaison officer for St Catherine North are that approximately 12:10 a.m., a police operation was carried out in Riversdale. During the exercise four men armed with guns were seen in the community.

The gunmen, allegedly, opened fire upon spotting the police party. After the shooting subsided, two of the men were seen suffering from gunshot wounds. A Llama .22 pistol, serial number 268305 with seven .22 cartridges, was taken from one of them. The injured men were taken to the Linstead Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced a probe into the incident.
