THE EDITOR, Sir:
The failure of Asafa Powell to win at last year's World Championship prevented our athletic icon Herb McKenley from witnessing a Jamaican male winning a gold medal in the 100 metres at the World championships, more so the Olympic Games.
But, spilt milk cannot be gathered. Indeed, we love Asafa and we need to assist him. This is to fulfil his desire to display his brilliant talent to the satisfaction of all Jamaicans both home and abroad.
We are all sorry, Herb, but the best is yet to come and I hope the legacy you have left behind will continue to flourish and bring joy to millions. We knew the great love this man had for his country. This man from Clarendon has shown his zeal for the less privileged in fulfilling their quest to achieve greatness.
The legacy lives on in people like Yohan Blake, Ramone McKenzie, Dexter Lee and Nickel Ashmeade. We are indebted to Herb for having set a clear precedent and pathway for the future generations. He symbolises what we as a people consider to be sacred.
The sprint factory is here to stay and we can play a crucial role in witnessing the dream that eluded Herb.
