The lead story in last Saturday's STAR was quite disturbing.
According to the story, residents of a Montego Bay community took to the streets after a weekly street dance was cut short by the police. Several people trying to go about their business were delayed as the angry residents demonstrated.
It is interesting to see how people react when the police are actually enforcing something they promised to do. Usually, the police are accused of only making promises, and in this instant, when they were actually trying to carry out their promise, they were met with anger.
The police should not be deterred, however, as this is a very good move. Promoters cannot simply be allowed to take over their respective towns and do as they please - the law needs to be maintained.
Those who are not in agreement with the 2 a.m. cut-off time should simply stay home or go out earlier so they can make the most of their money.
If the police are going to clamp down on one party, they should clamp down on all and no one should be exempt. If there are selectors who feel like they should not be forced to operate under this law, they need to take their business elsewhere.
We fully agree with this 2 a.m. move and those who don't are going to have a serious problem, as it is very clear that the police are serious about this plan.
