Homestyle Juices Southern Conference Division One team, Swift Sons, are scheduled to leave the island today for Turks and Caicos where they will represent Jamaica in the fourth Caribbean Club Basketball Invitational.
The one-week competition will see teams from Antigua and Barbuda, Monsterrat, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, St Maarten and the hosts taking part.
Sons coach Howard Harvey believes the trip will be a beneficial one for his team as, upon their return next week, they will be competing in the play-offs of the Division One league.
"We will get to play six or eight games against unknown opponents and this will help with building the experience and character of our players," said Harvey.
"What we are looking for is to be as sharp as possible headed into the play-offs because, after all, our ultimate objective is to win the league."
Sons' 12-man roster travelling to Turks and Caicos has been drawn from the clubs' two teams, Swift Sons 'A' and Swift Sons 'B', third and eighth, respectively, in their zone.
Harvey added that the trip will also provide numerous possibilities.
"In addition to that it is always good to build relationships with Caribbean neighbours and what you find is that a lot of scouts from US colleges always attend those little tournaments so it is another plus for the players," he said.
