Travis and Trevor Burrell are twin sons to Merna and Raymond Burrell of Sanguinetti in Clarendon. They were born in the British Virgin Island on April 14, 1992. Although Trevor is smaller than his brother, he was first to be born, and they were born just over half an hour apart.
The two who were in Jamaica just over three weeks ago with their mother, to attend the thanksgiving service for their grandfather Isaac Cohen, are currently attending school in the British Virgin Island, and are in third form, and in the same class.
According to the twins, growing up for them was just like any other young persons who are not twins. However, Travis who appears to be the more talkative of the two said it is an advantage sometimes to have a twin brother. He noted that there were times growing up when one could get the other in trouble and get away without a fuss.
They pointed out that whenever this happens they usually try to defend each other or cover up one for the other. Travis noted that he covers up for Trevor for almost everything, though the two have had to fend for themselves at times when they get in trouble with their parents.
Best of friends
The two confessed that unlike some twins, they are the best of friends and want this to remain that way for all their life time.
They told Life and Times that they have always been in the same classes from kindergarten to high school, and they do not mind being together; as they have similar likes. They said they try as best as possible to encourage each other to find quality time to study, as well as time to play; as they want the best out of their school life.
"We like similar food like pizza and grapes, and we like the same music", said the two in tandem, as if they think alike at all times.
They do not intend to pursue the same courses of study after leaving high school. Travis made it clear that he wants to be involved in business, while Trevor wants to become a scientist.
On the matter of one being ill and then the other also gets ill, as is said by many persons about twins, the Burrell boys said there is some element of truth in such argument. Trevor pointed out that there are times when Travis is ill and then suddenly he too gets sick.
"Sometimes something happens to him (Travis) and then suddenly the same thing just happens to me as well. When we were younger, sometimes when he used to get flogged and was crying, I too started to cry", said Trevor.
The two said when they were younger they dressed alike. However they were quick to point out that dressing alike was always the idea of their parents. Now that they are in their teenage years, they do not fancy the idea of having to dress alike.
Though they are aware that there are twins who get married to twin sisters, they made it clear that they have no intention of doing so. They also said they would not like to have twin children when they start having children.
However they are cognisant of the fact that they too could have twin children, as they are from a family of twins. They
have an aunt and an uncle who have children who are twins.
