The twin-engine Cesna aricraft discovered in Vernamfield, Clarendon. - Dwight Nelson
A twin-engine aircraft was intercepted on Tuesday morning, near the Vernamfield airstrip in Clarendon, by a police-military team. One man, believed to be the pilot, was held.
Police reports are that between 8-10 a.m., a joint police-military team was in Vernamfield when it discovered men servicing a twin-engine Cesna aircraft with an American registration.
The men fled the scene, however, one was held.
Deputy Superintendent in charge of operations for Clarendon, Patrick Murdock, told the STAR: "No drugs were found, however, the pilot is in custody and the police are still conducting their inquiries as to the origins of the aircraft."
He added, "A number of houses in this area have been searched but, so far, nothing came up. However, we are continuing our operation in this area because we are well aware that this is an area where a number of illicit activities are carried out as it relates to guns and drugs trans-shipment."
This discovery has come less than three months after a plane carrying ganja crashed into mangroves near the Rocky Point port in the neighbouring Salt River.
